The following are frequently asked questions by prospective franchisees. Of course, as you move through our process, you will have additional questions which we will be happy to answer.
1. How do I get started?
The first step is to complete our online form and we will contact you with more information on the Maui Tacos brand, concept, Maui-Mex menu and our Franchise Award process. For more info on the approval process, please go to our Process page.
2. What types of opportunities are available?
At this time, single and multi-unit franchise opportunities are available in Hawaii and select mainland States in the U.S. Once approved, you will sign an individual Franchise Agreement and if qualified, an Area Development Agreement which gives you the right to develop multiple restaurants within an exclusive geographical territory.
Internationally, MAUI TACOS® is offering Master Franchise Licenses to specific target market countries.
3. What are your franchise fees?
The franchise fee for your first franchise is $30,000. We offer substantial reductions in franchise fees if you sign an Area Development Agreement to develop multiple restaurants. For instance, if you sign a Development Agreement for 4 stores, your franchise fee will be $30,000 for the first store, $15,000 for the second store, and $10,000 for each additional store. When you sign the Development Agreement, your initial upfront payment will be 100% of the fee for the first store, and only 50% for each additional store. You will pay the remaining 50% of each franchise fee when you sign the lease for each new store.
4. What is the royalty?
For each MAUI TACOS® you open, the ongoing royalty is 4% of gross sales for the first year, 5% for the second year and then 6% for all remaining years.
5. What are the financial requirements?
You will need a minimum net worth of $800,000 and liquidity (cash) of $200,000 per restaurant. These figures can be your partners combined net and liquid assets. The total investment range is $500,000 – $809,200 per site for a traditional restaurant.
To qualify for an Area Development Agreement you will need a minimum net worth of $2,000,000 and $400,000 liquidity (cash). You will need to commit to a minimum of 3 restaurants to sign an Area Development Agreement.
6. Does Maui Tacos International, Inc. offer financing?
While we do not offer direct financing, we can recommend equipment lessors, SBA and other lending programs available from third-party sources to you.
